An alpine hospitality experience that blends tradition with contemporary luxury.
The Bergwelt Grindelwald: design and wellness in the Bernese Alps
Nestled in the majesty of the Bernese Alps stands a new expression of Alpine luxury: the Bergwelt Grindelwald Alpine Design Resort. Here, tucked away among imposing mountains and enveloped in unmistakable Alpine tranquillity, lies this exclusive retreat that breaks away from the conventions of traditional hospitality. Grindelwald, nestled in a verdant valley, is framed by the spectacular north face of the Eiger and the elegant profile of the Wetterhorn. This breathtaking scenery makes the destination one of the most sought-after in Switzerland, not only for holidays, but also for memorable excursions. Every corner of the resort is meticulously crafted, offering a harmonious blend of comfort and nature.
Unique in its kind, the complex consists of two main buildings and six cosy chalets. Initially conceived as a paradise for winter sports and mountain activities enthusiasts, the project has evolved to embrace a vision of pure wellness. In this new direction, an entire floor has been dedicated to a spacious wellness area, equipped with a sauna, indoor pool, and steam bath. Designed by architect Jürg Hiltbrunner, this luxury hotel combines modern design with traditional materials, using wood and manufactured stone in a contemporary way, while maintaining the unmistakable elegance of the Alps.
Geopietra®: handmade beauty
The Geopietra® stone, crafted and hand-coloured, completes the exterior spaces of the hotel with style and elegance. The façade, clad in dark wood, harmoniously dialogues with the building’s base featuring the Geopietra® natural manufactured stone cladding, which anchors the building into the mountain landscape.
Outside, a heated swimming pool becomes an exclusive oasis of relaxation, surrounded by walls in manufactured stone that create a sense of intimacy and warmth. The use of the stone in this area reinforces the visual and aesthetic continuum with the rest of the structure, enhancing its architectural harmony. An enchanting inner garden reveals a reserved and evocative corner. Here, manufactured stone walls trace the boundaries of a space enriched with fragrant herbs from the Swiss mountains. A refuge for lucky guests who wish to immerse themselves in natural serenity.
Shades and forms in perfect harmony: Geopietra® Bergamo model
The masonry chosen to clad the exterior of the two main buildings is Geopietra® Bergamo model. The stone, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship, features a rectangular shape, creating a regular and visually solid texture, conveying a sense of order. A sophisticated blend of Grigio Terra and Aretino, with shades between grey and green, harmonises with the surrounding environment, enhancing the visual connection with the landscape.
The charm of dry-stack installation
The dry-stack installation, used for the manufactured stone cladding, is characterised by the absence of mortar between stones. By eliminating any separation between the elements, this installation technique enhances the natural beauty of the stone, emphasising its nuances. The result is a surface with a uniform and harmonious appearance, capable of creating an intense and fascinating visual impact.
Geocover wall caps complete the outdoor area
All the walls in the outdoor area are finished with Geocover wall caps in Spacco model. These are manufactured stone veneer panels, specifically designed by Geopietra®, which harmonise with the shades of the stone used for the project. Geocover not only complement and enhance the appearance of the masonry, blending perfectly with the overall design, but also effectively solve the problem of water penetrating joints.
Aesthetics and high performance with Mastrosistema®
The project embraces an architectural approach that goes beyond the purely aesthetic, incorporating state-of-the-art solutions to ensure not only functionality, but also energy efficiency. The choice of Murogeopietra® cladding was guided by the need to harmoniously combine aesthetic value with optimal technical performance. For this reason, the cladding was applied on external thermal insulation, using the tested and guaranteed Mastrosistema® system. In Europe, it is the only system to have received the Avis Technique from the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) in France, offering a solid guarantee of quality and safety to all designers.
