The architect Willi Färbinger created the prestigious MANGGEI design hotel in 2009 for the Perner family, well-established hoteliers in Obertauern.
In Salzburg dialect MANGGEI is an affectionate term for groundhog and is also the concept that permeates the entire design of the hotel - so feel like a mangeei and enjoy your stay in the mountains to the full! The hotel's unusual offering in a setting with a family feel is its small number of rooms - 25 - ranging from single rooms to suites for seven people, enabling guests to have full flexibility. Sleep is sacred here and late breakfasting the done thing! With a network of heated underground corridors connecting the nearby Hotel Perner, a short walk takes guests to the swimming pool and wellbeing facilities, or the restaurant in the main hotel, even during a snowstorm or bad weather.
The ultra-modern building, constructed according to Passivhaus criteria with a focus on acoustic/thermal performance levels and energy efficiency, features grand stone walls with murogeopietra, and is exclusively surrounded by larch wood. The murogeopietra TOCE model, with scale-profile stone lengths in typical alpine style, has a soft compact texture thanks to a mix of earthy light grey and white shades and GeoBi large grain mortar in the same colour.
The clean sharp design is also reflected in the minimalist interior inspired by the Bauhaus style, with function and harmony in accordance with nature. In the communal areas of Manggei, the architect also opted for warm natural colours such as brown, beige, grey and orange, and chose the murogeopietra SCAGLIA model for its textural detail and elegant dry installation technique. Bespoke furniture has been made using quality materials from the area, and alongside classic internationally-designed pieces and modern art creates a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.
